Tracy Neis grew up in Greenhills, Ohio, and earned a degree in English literature from the University of Notre Dame, despite her father's plea that she become a "girl engineer." She lived in six different states after graduating from college, before finally settling in California, the last place to which she ever anticipated moving. She has published pieces on subjects ranging from professional wrestling, beer can collecting, a player-piano-repair-woman, a fourth-grade class's journey on a tall ship through Boston Harbor, and the effects of punitive damages on the property insurance industry. Her first book, A Collective Biography of African-American Poets, is slated for a fall 2010 release. She presently lives twenty-minutes north of Disneyland with her tall husband, beautiful daughters and anorexic cat.
